Come join as our new BI Manager and add value to our business by delivering mission-critical information to the desktops of business intelligence users throughout the company. It's your Group's task to empower a growing business intelligence user community by delivering ever-increasing functionality and processing and procedural efficiency as seamlessly as possible. This new job offers the opportunity to increase the value of dimensional and relational data to your co-workers by maximizing their information based empowerment with timely and flexible ad hoc analytic and reporting capabilities. Folks in our marketing, customer care, financial, strategic planning, supply chain, and other functions need to be kept keenly aware of and able to quantify trends, opportunities and risks. We are in a fiercely competitive industry, so the team will be counting on you to come through by continuously delivering business intelligence enhancements that maximize their productivity. And all this will depend on your ability to maximize the productivity of your fellow contributors in our IT and business partner organizations. What are the challenges, you ask? The BI Manager faces balancing 4 sets of requirements: 1) Maximizing the adoption of BI solution enhancements; 2) Heightening the efficiency with which these enhancements are developed, tested and implemented; 3) Complying with existing development and implementation procedures; and 4) Implementing new procedures for developing, testing and implementing BI enhancements developed within the BI and user community organizations. There's a bunch of add-on components to this job, so read on: You'll perform lead functions in the specification of scope, resources and time needed to complete business intelligence development projects, including the identification of next steps and dependencies, estimated resource utilization, and acceptance test criteria. You'll deliver continuous improvement in the design of our customer and prospect data marts, implement procedures for increasing the variety of data integrated into this processing environment, and ensure that user analysis and performance metrics are well understood and documented across functions and departments. You'll also coordinate the documentation of requirements and deliverables by working closely with the Product Planning group to assign priorities to enhancement projects. We expect you'll soon become an expert user of the business intelligence user interface at VMU --with a complete understanding of business rules, data definitions and nuances, interpretation of findings, and the use of findings to support business decisions throughout the company. You'll also serve as the primary contact for users of the business intelligence solution when they have questions about hands-on use of the system or need support interpreting their findings. You'll be responsible for customized training materials and curricula to maximize their applicability to your co-workers' functional areas and heighten their opportunities to gain insight into the impact of consumer and market dynamics on the achievement of growth, retention and profitability objectives. Your super strong project management abilities will help you gather and document user requests for system enhancements, and weigh their importance and urgency against the time and resources needed to realize these enhancements to optimize the efficiency with which they're delivered. Communication will be paramount as you document the status of deliverables in terms of open issues, resource requirements, scheduled delivery dates and next steps. Plus, you'll promote the adoption of the business intelligence user interface by providing case studies of the use of business intelligence in shaping business strategies/marketing programs/advertising campaigns/promotions and supporting decision making processes. Bring a strong knack for problem solving so you can take an active role in the resolution of open issues by a) studying the logic, data structures, computational methods and analytic techniques that support the delivery of straightforward analytic/query results, and b) engaging key users and delivering contributors when necessary, to reach agreement on actions needed to fulfill requirements on schedule and within budget. Your goal should be to champion your own causes, and use your insights into the youth market for wireless communications to recommend enhancements of the data marts and user interface, and obtain buy-in from user community members. Job RequirementsThis job is not for anyone who simply thinks they're a data hog. You'll need 5+ years analytical and reporting experience in a retail customer centric business environment with multiple product / services offerings, and at least 3 recent years of project management experience (using MS Project) in the development and implementation of business intelligence solutions that require timely updating and analysis of very large databases/marts. You must exhibit flexibility to execute at the project management level as well as the detail data analysis level. We'll need to see hands-on experience in the use of one or more of the following BI tools: Business Objects, Cognos, Oracle Discoverer, Brio, Microstrategy. Plus solid experience using MS Project. You should have a demonstrated and exceptional aptitude for non-statistical data analytics to understand, document and contribute to the design of business intelligence solutions that account for data nuances (often called "gotchas") that often plague lesser contributors. Recent hands-on successful Business Objects implementation leadership will help your resume rise to the top. You should also show flexibility to execute at the project management level as well as the detail data analysis level. Perseverance is a critical trait in this role. The BI Manager must be able to continue pursuing objectives despite criticism or dismissal of his/her recommendations. You must be able to communicate objectives clearly and describe challenges tactfully. To really do the job justice, you will need to be a project manager to the core - with the ability to schedule, coordinate and evaluate contributions from several organizations is a make-or-break requirement for this role. If you're an enthusiast for managing business intelligence projects, have a well developed aptitude for coordinating and balancing resources and requirements, and agree that serious business can be fun--contact us! | |
