Sr. Buyer/Planner

Location: Uniondale, LI

Reports to: Operations Planning Director

Salary Range: 75-85k

Primary Function:

Responsible for the execution of the supply plan including production planning, material acquisition and inventory management for product lines assigned. Plans and issues purchase orders and work orders. Coordinates with other departments to achieve optimum utilization of facilities in meeting customer needs. Reports to management regarding performance metrics and problems such as shortages, changes, backlogs and the like

• Execute the supply plan provided by the Master Production Scheduler. Runs and executes MRP to determine raw material and manufacturing requirements

• Responsible for placing purchase orders for new and existing assigned production materials within authorized limits. Expedites purchase orders as required

• Create work orders 3 weeks in advance to balance customer service needs, plant optimization, and inventory objectives. Ensure materials are available for production the week before production within agreed-to exception limits. Work with the Production Schedulers to provide input to the production schedule

• Maintains favorable fill rates with an optimum inventory investment. Responsible for maximizing fill rates for customer orders for products assigned

• Work with commodity managers to make sure using right vendors, and up to date on pricing, vendor capabilities and commodity issues

• Monitor and maintain planning parameters including safety stock and order quantity
• Provide training and guidance to planning clerks and new Buyer Planners.

Experience & Education:

• Minimum of five(5) years experience in and knowledge of manufacturing activities including purchasing, materials, and production processes.

• Minimum of four (4) years experience in procurement activities to include manufacturing and production processes or any combination of experience, education or training which would provide the level of knowledge, skill and ability required.

• Bachelor degree or equivalent.

• Familiarity with the APICS Body of Knowledge, CPIM preferredExperience in using MRPII, ERP or supply chain software preferably Manfact MPS, MRP, PO, and Parts master
• Knowledge of a purchasing process, commodities, sources of supply, procurement laws, and regulations.
• Strong knowledge of Access MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint skills.
• Strong written and verbal skills, organizational, and multi-tasking abilities.
• Detail and deadline orientation.
