A Senior Underwriter is responsible for underwriting individual property accounts (focusing on Fortune 2000 type business), carrying out the marketing plan, maintaining technical underwriting expertise, and communicating market developments.

Responsibilities of the Position:

· Marketing retail brokers and primary companies to obtain suitable business.

· Evaluating the technical aspects of risks, both from an engineering and underwriting standpoint.

· Determining acceptable underwriting terms and conditions to write profitable business.

· Determining exposures, normal loss exposures (NLE’s) and MFLs.

· Pricing of risks for both quota share, and excess layers.

· Issuance of necessary paperwork such as binders, certificates and endorsements.

· Maintenance of complete underwriting files.

· Servicing accounts for renewals and other items, including meetings with Brokers and Insureds.

· Review of policy wording.

· Assistance with premium collections when necessary.

· Evaluation of claims, in co-operation with the claims department.

Skills & Knowledge:

· A minimum of 5 to 10 years underwriting experience with a large insurance/

reinsurance company required

· Bachelor Degree required - an engineering degree preferred

· CPCU and/or ARe classes or other insurance studies preferred

· Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point

· Excellent analytical skills

· Solid communication skills
