Senior Data Modeler

Essential Responsibilities Include:
|
The data modeler is primarily responsible for designing and maintaining logical and physical data models for operational business applications. The data modeler works closely with application development staff and business users to identify and translate business process and application requirements
|
Note: This position is exclusively for operational applications and not for data warehousing.
|
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
|
Initiate and conduct business and technical design sessions to identify, gather and validate requirements and data model solutions.
|
Analyze and translate business requirements and technical specifications into logical and physical data models.
|
Develop and maintain documents and worksheets that facilitate user meetings and the data model design and release process.
|
Maintain enterprise data dictionary to eliminate attribute redundancy, enforce naming consistency and document business metadata.
|
Develop and maintain standards and procedure documents for the data modeling practice.
|
Support physical model implementation, including official model release, pre-implementation compare report validation and post-implementation compare report validation.
|
Manage synchronization of the physical model with the database after implementation.
|
Maintain and support modeling software including the testing and implementation of new software releases and managing software issues with software vendor. Also identify, implement and support new tools and techniques to facilitate the model process.
|
Minimum Qualifications Are: |
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to conduct requirements gathering and model teach-back sessions
|
2+ years experience conducting functional and technical requirements gathering and model design sessions with technical and business users
|
3+ years experience developing new logical and physical application data models from technical and functional requirements
|
5+ years experience in general development and maintenance of logical and physical data models (including reverse engineering, modifications, physical database migrations, documentation, etc.)
|
Strong knowledge of core Entity Relationship logical data model concepts such as entity, attribute, domain, relationships (parent-child, associative, role, recursion, exclusivity, etc), cardinality, optionality, super-type, sub-type, keys (primary, foreign, alternate), etc.
|
Strong knowledge of physical data model concepts such as table, view, column, sequence / identity, constraints (key, column, table, check, cascade action), sub-type roll-up/down, index (unique, non-unique, clustered, reverse), tablespace, partition, Materialized Query Tables / Materialized Views,
|
Knowledge of logical data model strategies such as Involved Party, Location, Classification, etc.
|
Experience with ER/Studio and ER/Studio Repository desired. Experience with Erwin or other modeling tool acceptable.
|
Master’s degree (or Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years relevant experience) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Information Systems
|
Advanced knowledge and extensive experience in data analysis and Entity Relationship Modeling
|
Retail industry experience a plus
|
Knowledge of multi-dimensional and dimensional modeling a plus
|
Strong SQL skills
|
DB2 UDB v8 a plus
