EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

JOB TITLE: Senior Unix Systems Administrator


s105k +10% BONUS

DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES:

* Responsible for administration of all Solaris/Linux and or apache Unix . These include: installation, backups, patch maintenance, performance tuning, monitoring results of cron jobs, scripting/automation of recurring tasks, day*to- day system resource management and monitoring.

Work with Senior Developers, Network Administrator, Windows/NT administrators and Help Desk analysts to maintain day-to-day operations and resolve production issues.
Work under direction from IT Operations Manager in the determination of deadlines & priorities for system maintenance tasks and Unix related infrastructure projects.
Work with Microsoft System Engineers on *VERITAS Netbackup* or *Bakbone* configuration and administration.
Perform start of the day system verification procedures to validate system state and availability, confirm successful execution of nightly batch processes and cron jobs, document instances of system and batch process failures in the ticketing system and resolve them expeditiously.
Implement system alerts to notify IT Management of system unavailability.
Work with the DBA to support Oracle Databases and optimize performance.
Perform day-to-day system administration tasks such as monitoring of httpd & https processes, management of server access & error logs, monitoring disk space usage and archival, backup status, tape archive management, and other periodic maintenance tasks. Generate reports and maintain documentation per Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) guidelines.
Perform MAC server related support functions (Mac Server OS X, X-Serve) APLUS
Provide expertise in areas of Unix Administration and backup assistance.
Play pro-active user-support role in all deployed systems.
Perform monthly and quarterly SOX reviews including documenting results of such reviews.
Perform periodic maintenance tasks, generate reports and maintain documentation related to Unix operations as required per SOX guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

* Minimum of 7 years experience with Unix (Solaris) systems administration in a business environment.

* Excellent trouble shooting abilities to identify root cause of production issues and resolve them quickly to maintain high availability.

* This person must be extremely hands-on as he/she will be the *go to* person for problems.

* BS in engineering or computer science or equivalent work experience required, MS a plus.

* Solaris System Admin certification preferred. SUN Network Admin a plus

* Strong Perl and UNIX shell scripting expertise & related utilities.

* Hands on experience with Solaris 2.6 through 10 required.

* Experience with Oracle installations on Solaris

* Experience with Enterprise Back-up systems and Enterprise Storage solutions e.g. SAN, NAS required.

* Familiarity with iplanet/SUN ONE/SUN Java web servers, Apache web servers, resin application server, LDAP and directory services preferred.

* Basic networking experience is a requirement. Extensive experience with Cisco Switches & Routers and firewall knowledge is a plus.

* Mac Server OS X (10.3.X) administration and familiarity with XServe is a plus.

* Experience in a SOX environment strongly preferred.

* Demonstrated ability to create a robust implementation plan for a systems project.

* Excellent communication skills.

* Ability to manage stress well under difficult situations and when dealing with production issues and project deadlines.

Job Description: As a member of the New York Systems Administration team you will be
required to manage, maintain and support a large number of medium to
enterprise class systems according to existing procedures and utilizing
in-house and standard Unix tools. We require solid Solaris and AIX skills
(Linux is a plus) and a working knowledge of Web infrastructures.
Experience working with HP Open View is also a plus. There is ample scope
for project work and development of new services and tools.




REQUIREMENTS:
Eight (8) years experience in UNIX Systems Administration required. Proven
project management, communication, writing and organizational skills also
required. Ability to work unsupervised, with a good understanding of
technical and customer support. Solid Solaris and AIX skills, with Linux
a plus. Solid understanding of networking and standard network
applications and scripting (ksh, bourne). PERL/PYTHON would be a bonus. HP
OpenView knowledge in a UNIX environment would be a definite advantage.

Job Description:

Principal Responsibilities:

· Participate in the planning, design, implementation, installation, testing and maintenance of all network environments.

· Provide technical support and guidance relating to the network to all members of the company.

· Evaluate networking hardware and prepares formal evaluation reports on network systems projects.

· Participate in evaluation, implementation, and testing of data communications and LAN/WAN security systems.

· Participate in disaster contingency planning.

· Hold tutorial training sessions for Applications Development and Network Operations staff.

· Supervise system tests. Responsible for network system quality assurance and consistency with installation standards and project development methodology.

· Prepare documents to facilitate use of network facilities by Applications Development and Network Operations.

· Assist in preparing project budgets and unit budgets.

· Provide remote access support for evaluating equipment and system problems.

· Create and maintain configuration and procedural documentation ensuring accuracy and usability.

· Assist in the training and development of junior engineers.

· Assume management role in the absence of Network Manager.

Experience/Qualifications:

§ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Networking related degree.

§ CCNA certification required, CCNP or CCDP a plus.

§ At least 5 years experience in the Networking field preferably with Cisco Equipment.

§ A working knowledge of Juniper Networks security product line.

§ Ability to communicate effectively with peers, users, and all management levels.

§ Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

§ In depth knowledge Routers, Switches Firewalls and Load Balancers.

§ Some knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows XP, 2000, 2003), applications/utilities (SMS, MOM, SQL Server, Office, etc.) and networking utilities (HP Openview, SolarWinds, TACACS).

§ Working knowledge of network security hardware and software (VPNs, IDS, IPS).
